Riley, the Right Whale and His Friend Kyle

Riley the Right Whale

Guest Storyteller Gigi Mischele Miller

Gigi joins StoryTime to read her book Riley, the Right Whale and His Friend Kyle in conjunction with the Right Whale Festival on the same day.

This children’s book tells the story of a baby North Atlantic Right Whale whose mother is entangled in nets and ropes and in danger of drowning. The baby whale, Riley, must do something to help save his mother, but what can he do? He is just a baby whale, but he needs his mother to survive, so he must do something, and fast!

The story parallels the true story of Snow Cone, the North Atlantic Right Whale and her calf, who were spotted off the coast of Jacksonville and Flagler Beach, Florida two years ago. Snow Cone was a right whale who gave birth to her calf while entangled in fishermen’s’ nets and ropes.
